Vetiver perfume comes from a root, not a wood. Chrysopogon zizanioides is a grass whose rootstock is dug, washed and distilled; Haitian vetiver is the reference origin, smoky and grapefruit bright, where Javanese runs darker and Bourbon runs earthier. It is one of the few materials that reads mineral and green at the same time, which is why it anchors so many colognes and so many chypres.

Two Premiere Peau extraits de parfum are built on it at 20 percent concentration. Gravitas Capitale slices Italian cedrat and shishito chili across a wet asphalt accord with Haitian vetiver sunk low underneath, a neo-cologne with gravity. Rose Monotone uses vetiver to keep a crystalline rose cold and unblooming.
