Scent

Dry, mineral, and musky. A quiet amber that reads more as texture than as scent -- it adds weight and substance to a composition without asserting a clear identity. Woody and slightly metallic, with none of the sweet warmth associated with traditional amber accords. Closer to clean musk territory than to rich Amber amber.

The Full Story

Aldambre (CAS 1725-03-7) is a macrolactone (2-oxacyclododecan-1-one) with woody, amber, dry, and musky odor characteristics. The molecule (C11H20O2, MW 184) is produced by Synarome and functions as a bridge between the musk and amber families -- carrying the lactonic character of macrocyclic musks with the dry warmth of amber materials.

The compound appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid. Its olfactory profile is understated but effective: a dry, mineral amber note without sweetness or obvious warmth, making it useful in modern compositions that want amber complexity without traditional Amber richness.

Aldambre's position in the perfumer's toolkit is as a quiet structural element -- it doesn't announce itself but adds substance and longevity to compositions, particularly in combination with other amber and musk materials.

Did You Know?

Did you know?
Aldambre's macrolactone structure (a 12-membered ring containing one oxygen) places it at the intersection of the musk and amber families -- it has the ring structure of a musk but the olfactory character of an amber.

In Perfumery

Aldambre functions as a fixative and structural modifier in amber, woody, and musk compositions. Its dry, mineral character makes it useful in modern, understated fragrances where warmth is needed without sweetness. Works well as a blender between musk and amber accords, smoothing transitions and adding substance.
