The Full Story

Gariguette is a specific cultivar of strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa 'Gariguette') — a French INRAE-bred variety from 1976, prized in haute pâtisserie for its elongated shape, intense aroma and pronounced acidity. The cultivar is grown principally in southern France (Périgord, Provence, Sologne) and is in commercial trade from March through June.

In perfumery

Strawberry as a category has no commercial fragrance extract — the fruit yields nothing meaningful to industrial extraction. 'Gariguette' as a perfumery reference is therefore conceptual: the cultivar's distinctively bright-tart-aromatic profile is reconstructed using ethyl methylphenylglycidate (the 'strawberry aldehyde', CAS 77-83-8) [A], cis-3-hexenol for green-leaf lift, furaneol (CAS 3658-77-3) for ripe warmth, γ-decalactone for creamy body, and a touch of damascenone for floral depth.
