Fresh, woody, and rosewood-adjacent. The linalool dominance gives it a creamy, slightly citrus-tinged woodiness -- cleaner than sandalwood, less camphorous than ho wood. A faint resinous undertone from the Bursera origin adds depth. More naturalistic than synthetic linalool, less complex than rosewood oil.

The Full Story
Linaloe berry oil is extracted from the fruit of Bursera delpechiana, a tree native to Mexico and Central America. The oil is rich in linalool and linalyl acetate -- the same terpene alcohol that defines rosewood, coriander seed, and lavender -- but with a particular resinous-woody backdrop from the Bursera genus.
The scent profile is fresh, woody, and subtly floral, with a rosewood-like creaminess softened by the berry's natural resinous character. Unlike rosewood oil (now severely restricted due to deforestation of Aniba rosaeodora), linaloe berry provides a comparable linalool-rich woody-floral effect from a less endangered source.
Linaloe berry has been used for centuries in Mexican traditional medicine and aromatherapy. In perfumery, it occupies a niche as a natural alternative to rosewood and as a source of naturalistic woody-floral effects.
Bursera delpechiana belongs to the same genus as palo santo (Bursera graveolens) and copal (various Bursera species). The family is sometimes called the 'incense tree' family, reflecting its long history in ceremonial and aromatic use across Mesoamerica.

In Perfumery
Linaloe berry oil functions as a heart note in woody-floral, fresh, and aromatic compositions. It provides natural linalool-rich woody character as an alternative to restricted rosewood oil. Works in green-floral, modern woody, and aromatic-herbal compositions. Its natural origin makes it valuable for compositions marketed as natural or botanical.
