In Perfumery
Australian blue cypress (Callitris intratropic a) is a base note yielding a particular blue oil due to high guaiazulene content. Its scent is woody-smoky with a sweet, almost honey-like undertone — drier and more mineral than Virginian cedarwood, less camphoric than Atlas cedar. Functions as a fixative in woody and incense compositions. The guaiazulene content (which gives the blue col or) also imparts anti-inflammatory properties exploited in aromatherapy. Works alongside vetiver, patchouli, and oud in dark-woody accords. At low dosage, it adds a clean, almost metallic-woody transparency.
