Dewy, transparent, faintly sweet-green. Lighter than muguet, less waxy than freesia. A soft, bell-like clarity — the scent equivalent of a pale watercolor wash. You register gentleness and freshness more than any specific note.

The Full Story
Bellflower (Campanula spp.) encompasses over 500 species of flowering plants. Most produce negligible fragrance — the perfumery note is a fantasy accord built on visual associations: the delicate, nodding, bell-shaped blooms in blue, purple, or white.
The reconstructed scent aims for gentle, dewy florality — lighter than lily of the valley, less green than violet. Think of morning dew on thin petals: there is a watery freshness, a faint grassy sweetness, and a sense of fragility.
Construction typically involves hydroxycitronellal (light, lily-like), hedione (jasmine-transparent), and traces of green notes. The result is a whisper-note — useful for adding airiness and softness without identifiable floral character.
Campanula is derived from the Latin campana (bell), describing the flower shape. The genus is native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, with centers of diversity in the Mediterranean and Caucasus.

In Scottish folklore, picking a bellflower (harebell, Campanula rotundifolia) was considered unlucky — it was called the 'devil's bells.' The flower's association with fairy magic persists in folk traditions across northern Europe.

Fantasy floral functioning as a softener and transparency agent. No natural extraction exists. Built from light floral synthetics (hydroxycitronellal, hedione) with green-dewy accents. Useful in sheer, pastel, or spring-themed compositions where gentle florality is needed without heaviness.
