Clean-metallic, warm-skinned, and soft. Like holding a pair of well-worn jeans to your face -- the interaction of laundered cotton, a faint metallic tang from indigo dye, the warmth of the person who wore them, and a trace of sun and air. Intimate and unpretentious.

The Full Story
Jeans is a fantasy textile accord in perfumery. The note aims to capture the specific scent of worn denim -- not fresh from the factory, but broken-in, softened by washing, carrying the memory of the wearer.
The scent of actual denim involves several components: the faintly metallic, indigo-dye quality of the fabric; a clean, laundry-detergent freshness from washing; the warmth of body heat absorbed into the cotton; and a subtle, slightly salty skin trace.
Perfumers reconstruct this using clean musks (for the washed-fabric base), a metallic-ozonic thread (for the indigo-dye impression), a cotton-like softness (transparent musks, aldehydes), and a barely perceptible skin-warm element (musks, ambrette, or Cashmeran).
In a composition, jeans functions as a casual, everyday-wear element. It provides a relaxed, ungendered backdrop that reads as effortlessly cool rather than polished or formal.

The indigo dye used in traditional denim does not penetrate the cotton fiber -- it sits on the surface, which is why jeans fade with wear. Each wash removes a thin layer of dye, exposing the white cotton core beneath, and subtly changing the fabric's scent as the chemical character of indigo diminishes.
