The Full Story

Suntan lotion references older generation tanning oils: coconut oil, cocoa butter, minimal UV protection. Richer, warmer, less clinical than modern sunscreen.

The key difference is absence of chemical-plastic overlay from modern UV filters. Pure tropical fat: delta-decalactone and gamma-nonalactone, coumarin, and sometimes a salicylate.

In perfumery, this is the warmer, more nostalgic cousin of the sunscreen accord. References the 1970s-80s beach experience.

Did You Know?

Did you know?
The foundational banana-boat suntan oil of the 1970s had SPF of roughly 2-4, blocking less than 75% of UVB. Modern sunscreens smell different because effective UV filters have different volatile profiles.
