Leather perfume contains no leather. The accord is a reconstruction, birch tar, styrax, isoquinolines, immortelle and smoke, inherited from the glove makers of Grasse who perfumed hides to hide their smell. A good leather perfume is therefore a forgery, and the quality of the forgery is the whole art.
Simili Mirage is the Premiere Peau leather perfume, a 20 percent extrait de parfum by Claire Liegent. A faux leather that breathes: olibanum and sea salt over hot sand and Croatian immortelle, dry and saline, closer to sunburnt skin on a rocky coast than to a jacket. The copy outlives the original it cracked from.
Leather notes hold for a full day. The discovery set carries a 2 ml vial of Simili Mirage alongside the other six compositions.
Is there real leather in leather perfume?
No. The accord is rebuilt from birch tar, styrax, isoquinolines and immortelle, the chemistry glove makers used in Grasse to cover the smell of the hide.
What does Simili Mirage smell like?
A dry, saline leather: olibanum and sea salt over hot sand and Croatian immortelle, closer to sunburnt skin than to a jacket. 20 percent extrait de parfum.
Can I try a leather perfume before buying a full bottle?
Yes. Simili Mirage is one of the seven 2 ml vials in the discovery set, and the set price is credited toward a full bottle.
