Oud perfume is built on agarwood, the resin a wounded Aquilaria tree produces to defend itself, burned as chips and distilled as oil for centuries across the Gulf and South Asia. Real oud is animalic, smoky and medicinal before it turns sweet, and most Western oud perfumes rebuild it from a handful of molecules and a great deal of rose.

The oud runs under jasmine sambac pushed past indole, a latex accord and black olive, so the wood reads dark and elastic rather than Arabian.
