Scent

Clean, herbal-fresh, with a linalyl acetate brightness and a subtle musky-green undertone. More transparent than natural clary sage, less heavy, less narcotic. The impression is of the top of clary sage without the bottom -- sunlit herb garden rather than drying shed.

The Full Story

Clarycet is a synthetic aromatic ingredient derived from or inspired by clary sage (Salvi a sclare a) chemistry. It captures the clean, herbal-fresh, slightly musky character of clary sage oil -- specifically the linalyl acetate-dominant quality -- without the heavier, ambrettolide-like musky-sweet base notes of the natural oil.

The molecule provides a clean, lifted, herbal-aromatic impression that reads as green-fresh-musky. It is more transparent and more predictable than natural clary sage oil, which can vary significantly by origin and distillation conditions.

Functionally, Clarycet works as a fresh-aromatic modifier in the top-to-heart zone. It provides herbal brightness and a clean musky undertone. The note works in fougere, aromatic, and fresh-herbal compositions as a modern alternative to natural clary sage.

Did You Know?

Did you know?
Clary sage oil (from Salvi a sclare a) naturally contains sclareol, a diterpene that is a starting material for manufacturing Ambrox (ambroxide) -- a important ambergr is replacers in contemporary use. Clarycet strips away this heavy base, keeping only the light, fresh top.

In Perfumery

Clarycet is a synthetic fresh-aromatic modifier for the top-to-heart zone. It captures clary sage's clean, linalyl acetate-dominant quality without the heavy, musky base of the natural oil. More transparent and predictable. Works in fougere, aromatic, and fresh-herbal compositions as a modern clary sage alternative. Pairs with lavender, bergamot, and light woods.
