The Full Story

Honeydew blossom is a fantasy floral note. Honeydew melons (Cucumis melo var. inodorus) produce small, unremarkable yellow flowers with minimal fragrance. The perfumery note imagines what a 'honeydew flower' might smell like: light, dewy-sweet, green-melon with a gentle floral quality.

Construction uses calone or melonal (for the watery-melon freshness), hedione (for floral radiance), clean musks (for dewy transparency), and a trace of honey (phenylacetic acid). The result should be pale-green, aquatic-sweet, and barely there -- a watercolour rather than an oil painting.

Functionally, honeydew blossom works as a fresh, watery-sweet top-to-heart modifier. It provides gentle, unobtrusive sweetness. Works in aquatic-floral, fresh, and summery compositions.

Did You Know?

Did you know?
Cucumis melo var. inodorus, the botanical name for honeydew melon, literally means 'scentless muskmelon.' The variety was named for the fact that, unlike cantaloupes, honeydew melons emit almost no aroma when ripe -- making a honeydew blossom perfumery note doubly imaginary.

Extraction & Chemistry

Extraction method: No extraction -- entirely fantasy accord. The honeydew melon flower carries negligible fragrance.
