Faintly floral, green, and barely perceptible. Pineapple flowers have almost no scent -- the note is a perfumer's invention, bridging the tropical fruit with a delicate floral quality.

Scent

Barely there. Faintly tropical-floral with a whisper of pineapple sweetness. Like pressing your nose to the crown of an unripe pineapple -- not the bold, juicy fruit aroma, but a quieter, greener, more floral suggestion of it. A perfumer's hypothesis about a nearly scentless flower.

The Full Story

Pineapple blossom (Ananas comosus) refers to the small, lavender-blue flowers that make up the pineapple inflorescence. Each pineapple fruit is formed from the fusion of 100-200 individual flowers. The flowers themselves have virtually no detectable fragrance.

In perfumery, pineapple blossom is a fantasy accord that imagines what a fragrant pineapple flower might smell like: a delicate, tropical-floral sweetness with a faint fruity-pineapple thread. It is lighter, softer, and more floral than pineapple fruit notes.

Perfumers build it using light tropical-floral materials, a barely perceptible pineapple-ester thread (allyl hexanoate, ethyl butyrate at trace levels), and transparent musks for a clean, airy quality.

The note sits in the top-to-heart range, providing an ephemeral tropical-floral freshness.

Did You Know?

Did you know?
A pineapple is technically a multiple fruit formed from the fusion of 100-200 individual flowers into a single structure. Each hexagonal segment on the skin was once a separate flower. The entire growing process takes 18-24 months from planting to harvest.
