The Full Story

Romandolide (CAS 236391-76-7) is a a Swiss fragrance house alicyclic musk that bridges two worlds: the volume and tenacity of polycyclic musks (PCMs) and the naturalness and transparency of macrocyclics. Its chemical structure -- an acetic acid ester with a dimethylcyclohexyl backbone -- places it in the newer generation of alicyclic musks designed to replace restricted PCMs without sacrificing performance.

The trademark was registered by a Swiss fragrance house SA in 2001. The molecule's signature is a delicate musk with distinct berry-like top notes and ambrette-like nuances -- less fruity and less ambrette than its cousin Helvetolide, but with superior tenacity in the drydown. This makes it particularly useful in compositions that need long-lasting musk support without fruity distortion.

Romandolide is stable across most applications -- fine fragrance, shampoo, detergent, soap, candles -- making it an adaptable modern musks available.
