Scent

Soft, floral-powdery with a transparent, almost aqueous quality. Less dense than rose, less indolic than jasmine, less green than lily of the valley. The cherry blossom reference is abstract rather than literal — it captures the lightness and impermanence of the flower rather than a specific botanical smell.

The salicylate base gives a smooth, velvety finish. Drier and more powdery than linalool-driven florals.

The Full Story

Like other salicylate esters used in perfumery (benzyl salicylate, hexyl salicylate), it has an inherent soft, balsamic quality — but Sakura Salicylate is specifically tuned toward a floral-powdery direction.

The molecule provides a sheer, transparent florality with a powdery finish — not the dense sweetness of rose or jasmine, but the delicate, almost vanishing quality of cherry blossom petals. The salicylate backbone gives it a gentle, balsamic persistence that extends the life of more fleeting floral elements in a composition.

It has found particular use in Asian-market fragrances where cherry blossom is a culturally significant scent reference.

Did You Know?

Did you know?
Real cherry blossoms (Prunus serrulata) have an extremely faint scent — so faint that many people assume they are odorless. The 'cherry blossom' scent sold in perfumery and cosmetics is almost entirely a constructed fantasy rather than a faithful reproduction.

In Perfumery

Sakura Salicylate functions as a heart note providing soft, powdery florality. It is a transparency enhancer — used to lighten and soften dense floral or woody compositions. The salicylate backbone provides fixation without heaviness. Useful in floral, powdery, skin-scent, and Asian-inspired compositions. Blends naturally with other light florals, musk molecules, and sheer woody notes.
