The Full Story

Undecylenic aldehyde (CAS 112-45-8) is an eleven-carbon unsaturated aldehyde. The double bond gives it fresher, greener, more metallic character than saturated C-11.

Sharper and more angular than decanal (C-10). One of the three key aldehydes in landmark aldehydic compositions.

Functions as a top-note modifier adding metallic brilliance and fresh-green lift.

The triple combination of C-10, C-11, and C-12 at unprecedented concentrations in 1920s perfumery was considered radical. Ernest Beaux reportedly tested them at concentrations his colleagues thought were errors.
