Scent

Transparent, clean, and softly musky. Floral-powdery with a quality similar to of clean skin rather than laundry. Less sweet than Galaxolide, less animalic than muscone, more airy than Exaltolide. There is a gentle woody undertone. The overall impression is of lightness and cleanliness — musk stripped to its most essential, skin-like character.

The Full Story

A macrocyclic musk molecule (a cyclopentadecanone derivative) used in perfumery for its clean, floral-musky character. Globanone belongs to the family of macrocyclic musks — large-ring ketones and lactones that provide some of the most natural-smelling musk effects available.

The scent is transparent, clean, and gently floral. It has less of the laundry-detergent sweetness of polycyclic musks (Galaxolide, Tonalide) and more of the airy, skin-like quality of muscone (the natural musk molecule). There is a subtle woody-powdery quality that adds dimensi on without weight.

Macrocyclic musks like globanone are increasingly preferred in contemporary use for several reasons: they are biodegradable (unlike polycyclic musks, which accumulate in waterways), they have a more natural olfactory profile, and they perform well as fixatives. Globanone specifically is known for lightness — it provides musk character without the heaviness or animalic quality of some alternatives.

Did You Know?

Did you know?
Macrocyclic musk molecules contain rings of 14-18 carbon atoms — and human olfactory receptors are so sensitive to this specific molecular shape that we can detect some macrocyclic musks at concentrations below 1 part per trillion, making them among the among the strongest odorants to science.

Extraction & Chemistry

Extraction method: Fully synthetic. Produced by ring-closure reactions to form the macrocyclic ketone structure. Macrocyclic musks are generally more expensive to synthesize than polycyclic musks (like Galaxolide) due to the difficulty of forming large molecular rings, but their superior biodegradability justifies the cost premium.

In Perfumery

Base note and fixative in clean, fresh, and skin-scent compositions. Globanone provides transparent, biodegradable musk character that extends and softens other materials. It works in sheer florals, clean-skin accords, and minimalist compositions where heavier musks would be too dominant. As a macrocyclic musk, it is increasingly specified by brands seeking REACH-compliant, environmentally responsible formulations. works with white musks, ambroxan, and transparent florals.
