The Full Story

Naswar is a Central Asian smokeless tobacco — chewed, not smoked — common across Afghanistan, Pakistan (especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Iran, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It is prepared from processed Nicotiana tabacum leaves, cured with slaked lime (calcium hydroxide), ash, oils, sometimes cardamom or other aromatics. The lime alkalises the mixture, releasing free-base nicotine for rapid buccal absorption — pharmacologically the same approach as Indian gutka or American moist snuff.

The smell is sharp, alkaline-pungent, green-fermenting tobacco with a slight ammonia and faintly cinnamic edge. Naswar has no perfumery extract; any 'naswar' note in fragrance is a conceptual reference accord, built from tobacco absolute, lime-cured tobacco facets, and a small alkaline-vegetal fraction.
