Scent

Warm cinnamon-cardamom spice blended with creamy milk foam and the tannin bite of black tea. The spice is forward but softened — not aggressive, but enveloping. Like cupping a warm mug between your hands and breathing in: steam, sweet spice, milk, a trace of bitterness from the tea.

The Full Story

Chai latte is a gourmand accord inspired by the Western adaptation of Indian masala chai — black tea steeped with spices (cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, clove, black pepper) and served with steamed milk. The olfactory translation captures both the spice warmth and the creamy-milky softness.

The accord is built from spice materials (alpha-terpinyl acetate for cardamom, cinnamaldehyde for cinnamon, gingerol-related compounds for ginger, eugenol for clove), tea notes (tea absolute or reconstructions), and creamy-milky modifiers (lactones, heliotropin for powdery sweetness).

The difference between chai and chai latte in fragrance terms is the milk: the latte version adds lactonic creaminess, powdery softness, and a comfort-food quality that straight chai (drier, spicier) lacks. This softened version dominates in contemporary gourmand perfumery.

In formulation, chai latte accords provide a warm, spiced, creamy heart that bridges gourmand and oriental families.

Did You Know?

Did you know?
The word 'chai' itself means 'tea' in Hindi (from the Chinese cha) — so 'chai tea' literally translates as 'tea tea.' The spiced version is properly called masala chai in India, where it is prepared with varying spice blends depending on the region and household.

Extraction & Chemistry

Extraction method: Not a single extracted material — chai latte is a composed accord. Component spices available as essential oils or CO2 extracts. Tea: tea absolute (solvent extraction of Camellia sinensis). Milk/cream: synthetic lactones (gamma-decalactone, gamma-undecalactone). Assembly by the perfumer.

In Perfumery

Chai latte is a gourmand-oriental accord combining spice materials (cinnamaldehyde, alpha-terpinyl acetate, eugenol, gingerol types), tea notes, and creamy-milky modifiers (lactones, heliotropin). Functions as a warm heart note in gourmand, comfort, and cozy compositions. The milk element (lactones) distinguishes it from dry spice accords. Bridges gourmand and oriental families. Insuline Safrine (/products/insuline-safrine-saffron-perfume) by Première Peau works in adjacent warm-spice territory.
